PM Shehbaz Sharif directs to digitize oil and gas supply chain

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that the digitization of the oil and gas supply chain will help prevent the smuggling of these products and benefit the national treasury.

According to the details, an important meeting on petroleum division affairs was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which was attended by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahsan Khan Cheema, Minister for Petroleum Division Ali Pervez Malik, and relevant government officials.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister discussed that the discovery of new oil and gas reserves should be among the country's priorities in order to save foreign exchange spent on the import of petroleum products. He also directed that the oil and gas supply chain, from import to consumer usage, be prioritized for digitization.

The Prime Minister emphasized that digitizing the oil and gas supply chain would help curb the smuggling of these products and provide a benefit to the national treasury.

The meeting was briefed about the roadmap for the petroleum and gas sector. It was informed that Oil and Gas Development Company (OGDCL) had discovered large reserves of oil and gas in the Nashpa Block in Kohat District.

The Prime Minister congratulated the nation on the discovery of large oil and gas reserves in the Nashpa Block and praised the work of the concerned institutions. The meeting was informed that these reserves would allow for the extraction of 4,100 barrels of oil daily.

The meeting was further briefed that this year, domestic consumers would receive gas with better pressure compared to last year during the winter season, and work on RLNG connections is progressing rapidly with a target of completing 350,000 connections by June 2026.

Additionally, pipelines for the Shewa Gas Field and Batani Gas Field have been commissioned, while work on the pipeline for the Kot Palak Gas Field is ongoing.
