No evidence of torture in deaths of two women in police custody: Lahore police chief

LAHORE--  Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana has said that no evidence of torture was found in the post-mortem examinations of two women who died while in police custody in Lahore.

Regarding the alleged rape of a girl by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at Ghaziabad Police Station, Kamyana said it had been established that the girl was brought to the police station, but whether she was sexually assaulted or not would be determined after the forensic report.

DIG Administration Imran Kishwar also briefed the CCPO about the killing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdullah.

Speaking at a press conference at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh, CCPO Kamyana said that at 2:54pm on August 4, a call was received on the police emergency number 15 from the Township area regarding an alleged fraud incident.

He said police took action and shifted the two women to the police station, while a case was registered against them on the complaint of citizen Zeeshan Latif.

Kamyana said the condition of the women deteriorated, following which Rescue officials shifted them to Jinnah Hospital, where the hospital administration declared both women dead.

He said proceedings under Section 176 were completed under the supervision of a judicial magistrate, while the post-mortem report found no evidence of torture on the women.

According to the post-mortem report, black-colored spots were found on the lungs of both women. The hearts of Anmol and Amina were found filled with clots, while their livers, kidneys and stomachs were found to be completely healthy.

Police said blood and body-organ samples had been sent for histopathology tests to determine the exact cause of death.

He said forensic and chemical examination reports were awaited in connection with the deaths of the women.

The city police chief said cases had previously been registered against the women in Gujrat and at Lahore's Factory Area Police Station. The women were tracked through the Criminal Record Office (CRO), but their complete identification could not be established. Both women died on August 4.

Alleged sexual assault at Ghaziabad Police Station

Regarding the alleged rape of a girl by an ASI at Ghaziabad Police Station, the CCPO Lahore said a complete investigation into the incident was under way and no negligence would be tolerated in the case.

He said two additional sections had been added to the case and the investigation was being taken forward in light of the available evidence.

He said the final decision would be made after the forensic report was received.

PTI leader's killing

Regarding the killing of PTI leader Abdullah, the CCPO said the deceased had been involved in a business-related financial dispute and was targeted with the assistance of shooters.

He said strict legal action would be taken against anyone found involved in the incident.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, DIG Administration Imran Kishwar, DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza and other senior police officers also attended the press conference.
