Noor Mukadam murder case: SC upholds Zahir Jaffer's death sentence

Islamabad: The Supreme Court has upheld the death sentence of convicted murderer Zahir Jaffer, dismissing his review petition in the high-profile murder case of Noor Mukadam.

A three-member bench comprising Justice Hashim Kakar, Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim heard the case and announced the verdict after concluding proceedings.

During the hearing, counsel for the convict acknowledged the gravity of the crime, stating, “First and foremost, I accept that a grave injustice was committed against Noor Mukadam, and I extend my apologies to her family.”

The lawyer argued that the central issue in his submissions was the mental condition of the convict at the time of the incident. He maintained that his client was not mentally stable during the occurrence of the crime or the subsequent trial, but clarified that he was not disputing his client’s involvement in the murder.

After hearing the arguments, the Supreme Court rejected Zahir Jaffer’s review petition and upheld its earlier ruling, maintaining the death sentence.
