Terrorists attack police post in DI Khan, cop martyred

DI Khan: A policeman was martyred in a terrorist attack on a police post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan District.

Recently, several incidents of terrorism have taken place in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Bannu, Peshawar, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Bajaur, in which police personnel have been targeted in most of the incidents.

Dera Ismail Khan Regional Police Officer (RPO) Ashfaq Anwar confirmed that terrorists attacked a police post in the Khatti area of Dera Ismail Khan District from different directions.

When asked if the post in charge, Ahmed Nawaz, was seriously injured in the attack and later succumbed to his injuries, he confirmed the incident.

The attack took place on the same day that Pakistan Army Major Sibtain Haider was martyred, while 7 terrorists were killed during a secret operation by security forces in Dera Ismail Khan.

Last week, a soldier was martyred and another was injured in firing by unknown assailants near Bannu.

Over the past year, Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, has seen an increase in terrorist activities. It is pertinent to note that in November 2022, the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) announced the end of the ceasefire with the government and the targeting of security forces, police, and other law enforcement agencies.

According to reports by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) and the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the province most affected by terrorism last month. However, there was also a significant increase in counter-terrorism operations, with 54 people killed and 49 injured in 45 attacks in the province.
