Twitter co-founder launches new messaging app to rival WhatsApp

Twitter co-founder and now CEO of Block, Jack Dorsey, is ready to introduce a new messaging platform to rival WhatsApp.

This new decentralized messaging app called BitChat works on the Bluetooth Mesh network.

That is, it can be used even when there is no internet, while there is no server connected to it, and no phone number or email is required to sign in.

Jack Dorsey announced in an X (Twitter) post that the beta version of this app has been made live on TestFlight, while the full white paper is available on GitHub.

In the X post, he called it a personal experiment on Bluetooth mesh networks in which messages will be end-to-end encrypted.

This messaging app will make it possible to communicate encrypted with nearby devices.

That is, users will be able to exchange messages with each other over local Bluetooth networks, and chat will be possible even when there is no Wi-Fi or call service.

Messages from this app will only be stored on the device, while they will be deleted by default.

Earlier, Jack Dorsey had also introduced the decentralized social media app Blue Sky, but later separated from it.

BitChat is designed to work continuously, and it will be possible to use it even when the internet is blocked.

The app also has a feature called group chats or rooms.

Soon, a Wi-Fi Direct option will also be added to this app so that it can be used for longer distances.
