Alkhidmat delegation attends UNIW 40th Council meeting in Malaysia

LAHORE -- A delegation of Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan, led by Vice President Syed Ihsanullah Waqas, participated in the 40th Council Meeting of the Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) held in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

The four-day meeting was attended by representatives of more than 40 civil society organisations from over 16 countries. The Alkhidmat delegation included General Manager International Affairs Ahmad Toor and Alkhidmat’s representative in Türkiye, Umar Farooq.

Speaking about the meeting, Syed Ihsanullah Waqas said discussions focused on the humanitarian, social and economic challenges facing the Muslim world, ongoing humanitarian crises in Palestine and other regions, and ways to strengthen international humanitarian assistance through a coordinated strategy.

He said greater cooperation among civil society organisations in the Muslim world, sharing of experiences and joint humanitarian initiatives had become increasingly important in view of the growing humanitarian needs across different regions.

He said the meeting also reviewed UNIW’s previous activities and discussed its future policies and strategic priorities. An international conference on “Geopolitics and Global Changes in the Muslim World” was also held at Universiti Putra Malaysia, focusing on changing global dynamics and their impact on the Muslim world.

Waqas said Alkhidmat’s participation in the international forum was aimed at strengthening partnerships with global humanitarian organisations, learning from international experiences and exploring new opportunities for joint humanitarian and welfare initiatives.

He added that the Alkhidmat delegation also held meetings with delegates from different countries and representatives of partner organisations in Malaysia to discuss areas of mutual interest, cooperation and potential joint welfare projects.

The Union of NGOs of the Islamic World (UNIW) has a global network comprising 401 organisations from 66 countries. It provides a platform for organisations working in humanitarian assistance, education, human rights, family welfare, social and economic development and other welfare sectors to strengthen coordination, exchange experiences and undertake joint initiatives.
