PM Meets high-level Delegation of the Global Fund; discussions held on public health and other matters

PM Meets high-level Delegation of the Global Fund; discussions held on public health and other matters

Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met a high-level delegation of the Global Fund, during which discussions were held on public health in Pakistan, particularly ongoing cooperation and joint efforts for the eradication of tuberculosis (TB), HIV, and malaria.

According to details, the delegation was led by Mark Edington, Head of the Grant Management Division of the Global Fund, while the delegation also included Senior Portfolio Manager Azisken Goyria and Deputy General Counsel Natasha Heffner.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the delegation to Pakistan and said that Pakistan greatly values its partnership with the Global Fund. He appreciated the Global Fund’s significant role and support in improving public health systems in developing countries.

The Prime Minister said that the Global Fund is an important partner in strengthening Pakistan’s health system, and that the government is committed to eliminating tuberculosis, HIV, and malaria from the country. He added that the partnership with the Global Fund is making Pakistan’s efforts against these diseases more effective and robust.

He also directed the formation of a joint working group between the Government of Pakistan and the Global Fund to prevent HIV and limit its spread.

During the meeting, officials from the Ministry of National Health Services briefed the delegation on government measures and progress regarding the prevention and eradication of TB, HIV, and malaria in Pakistan.

On the occasion, the Global Fund delegation thanked the Government of Pakistan for its warm hospitality and praised Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate tuberculosis, HIV, and malaria, reaffirming their commitment to continue full cooperation and partnership in the future.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for National Health Syed Mustafa Kamal, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Prime Minister’s Focal Person for Polio Eradication Ayesha Raza Farooq, and other senior government officials.
