Iran says targeted US military in UAE, Jordan: state TV

AFP -- Iran said Monday it targeted US military targets in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jordan following US strikes on Larak Island.

Iran’s military said that it attacked US military personnel at an air base in the UAE, state TV reported.

Tehran “targeted the areas where US helicopters and personnel are stationed at Al Minhad Base in the UAE, using dozens of attack drones,” the army said, adding that the strikes were in retaliation for a US attack on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a separate statement, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they attacked US military targets in Jordan.

The Guards “targeted technical infrastructure, maintenance facilities, and enemy fighter jet positions at the US-operated King Hussein and Al-Azraq airbases in Jordan” with ballistic missiles, causing “heavy damage”, according to a statement published by state TV.

The attack comes after US forces struck two Iranian launchers on Iran’s Larak Island on Sunday, a US official said, marking the first known American strikes on Iran since late July.

The US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28 and Iran responded with its own strikes on Israel and Gulf states that host US bases.

The Iran war has now crossed the six-month mark.

US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli attacks on Lebanon have killed thousands and displaced millions of people.

Eighteen US service members have been killed in the conflict.

The war has led to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which before the conflict was used to transit about a fifth of the world’s oil supply.
