Pakistan, Bangladesh ink agreement to combat drug trafficking

Dhaka: Pakistan and Bangladesh on Saturday signed a historic agreement to cooperate in combating the drug trafficking.

The agreement was signed by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Salahuddin Ahmed in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Both Ministers also agreed to establish a secretary-level joint working group between the two Interior Ministries.

Under the MoU, Pakistan and Bangladesh will fully cooperate to prevent illegal transportation and smuggling of drugs.

Joint efforts will be made to eliminate the growing trend of drugs and its negative impacts in the society.

A joint strategy will also be formulated to stop the illegal sale of drugs and dismantle the supply line.

The relevant agencies of both countries will exchange timely intelligence regarding drug smugglers and networks.

Pakistan and Bangladesh will also share best practices, modern technology, and personnel training programs to curb the drug trade.

During the meeting, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi offered full cooperation to Bangladeshi counterpart regarding the Safe City Project. He said Pakistan will support Bangladeshi government in all aspects in Safe City Project.

The two sides also agreed to increase cooperation in the areas of internal security and training of civil armed forces.

The Ministers also discussed joint measures to counter terrorism.

A detailed discussion was held on enhancing mutual cooperation in tackling the cybercrimes, organized crime and financial frauds.

Discussions were also held on cooperation in training programs for officers in police academies.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi invited his Bangladeshi counterpart to visit Pakistan.

The Bangladeshi Home Minister thanked Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for offering cooperation for the Safe City Project.
