President appreciated Pakistan’s peace initiatives and reaffirmed that the EU supports all diplomatic efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.

President of the European Council Calls Prime Minister, Appreciates Pakistan’s Role in Middle East Ceasefire Efforts

Islamabad: The Prime Minister received a call from Antonio Costa, President of the European Council, during which they discussed the ongoing tensions in the Middle East as well as Pakistan–European Union relations.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s House, both leaders expressed deep concern over the ongoing tensions in Iran and the Gulf countries and their impact on the global economy. They emphasized the need for negotiations and diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis.

The statement noted that the Prime Minister updated the European Council President on Pakistan’s recent mediation efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East. The European Council President appreciated Pakistan’s peace initiatives and reaffirmed that the European Union supports all diplomatic efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.

Highlighting the importance of Pakistan–EU relations, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan values these ties highly. He also reminded that his scheduled visit to Brussels last month had been postponed, to which the European Council President responded that they look forward to welcoming the Prime Minister in Brussels on mutually agreed dates.

Emphasizing the importance of GSP Plus, the Prime Minister said he looks forward to inaugurating the first Pakistan–EU Business Forum, scheduled to be held in Islamabad on April 28–29, 2026.

In his statement, the European Council President said that he had a constructive telephonic conversation with the Pakistani Prime Minister. He was briefed on significant developments regarding the Iran conflict and the important meeting in Islamabad between the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan.

The European Council President expressed strong concern about the global implications of the Iran conflict and conveyed his best wishes to Pakistan for its peace efforts. He stated that only dialogue and diplomacy, fully respecting the UN Charter and international law, can restore peace and stability in the Middle East.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister also extended his best wishes to Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
