Adequate petroleum stocks available, public relief a priority:says PM

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that due to government decisions, sufficient quantities of petroleum products are available in the country to meet domestic needs.

According to details, a review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to assess the implementation of ongoing measures aimed at fuel conservation and austerity in light of the regional situation.

Speaking during the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that government decisions have ensured adequate availability of petroleum products for national requirements. He added that in the current situation, public relief has been given top priority, and as much relief as possible has been provided to the public over the past three weeks.

During the meeting, it was noted that the federal government allocated a substantial amount of Rs. 125 billion—through savings and cuts in the development budget—to prevent an increase in oil prices, so that the public could be protected from the direct impact of global tensions.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to support the government’s conservation campaign by avoiding unnecessary travel and prioritizing teleconferencing in offices and workplaces.

He also directed provincial governments to facilitate motorcycle and rickshaw owners in registering vehicles in their own names. This step will help digitize data of motorcycles and rickshaws across the country and enable owners to benefit from government relief measures.

In this regard, the Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to expedite coordination with Chief Secretaries of all four provinces, as well as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The meeting, held via video link, was attended by Ishaq Dar, federal ministers including Ahsan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Atta Tarar, Musadik Malik, Ahsan Iqbal, Shaza Fatima, and Owais Leghari, along with State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmad and other senior officials.
