Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and snowfall in higher altitudes is expected from Saturday till Monday in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

National Disaster Management Authority, through its National Emergencies Operation Center, has issued an alert regarding expected rainfall, thunderstorms, and snowfall in northern regions of the country.
According to the latest meteorological assessment, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and snowfall in higher altitudes is expected from Saturday till Monday in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
NEOC has cautioned that snowfall and rainfall in mountainous regions may lead to slippery roads, reduced visibility, and an increased likelihood of landslides and avalanches. The authority has further warned that rainfall combined with rising temperatures may also accelerate glacier melt and increase the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods.
NDMA has advised tourists, travelers and local population to avoid unnecessary travel, particularly through mountainous and landslide-prone areas, and to exercise caution while travelling.
The authority has also directed local administrations and relevant departments to closely monitor vulnerable areas and maintain readiness of emergency response teams to address any potential incidents.
