Bangladesh Cricket Board removes Finance Chairman over controversial statements
The board also expressed hope that players will participate in the Bangladesh Premier League to ensure its continuity.

Dhaka: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has removed Finance Chairman Najmul Islam from his position following his controversial statement.
According to the BCB, President Aminul Islam issued orders to dismiss Najmul Islam under Article 31 of the board’s constitution. The decision was taken after strong protests and demands from the players.
The BCB stated that Najmul Islam’s recent remarks had caused intense anger among Bangladeshi players, which led them to boycott matches of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Players had also been continuously demanding Najmul Islam’s resignation.
In an official statement, the BCB said that the decision to remove Najmul Islam was made in accordance with the BCB constitution, and that the BCB president will serve as the acting chairman of the finance committee.
The statement added that the BCB hopes Bangladeshi cricket will continue to progress with professionalism and passion. The board also expressed hope that players will participate in the Bangladesh Premier League to ensure its continuity.
It is worth noting that a few days earlier, Najmul Islam, head of the BCB’s finance committee, had stated that the board gains nothing from the World Cup. He said that not participating in the T20 World Cup in India would not cause any loss to the board; rather, the players would suffer as they would not receive match fees.
He further said that players would not be financially compensated if they did not participate in the World Cup, adding that despite poor performances, the board spends millions of taka on players. He said the board has never asked players to return money, but questioned how players could survive if the board itself did not exist.
