Iraq shows interest in JF-17, Super Mushshak trainer aircraft: ISPR

Rawalpindi: During the official visit of Pakistan Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu to Iraq, the Iraqi Air Force has expressed keen interest in the JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft. During the visit, detailed discussions were held between the air forces of both countries on defense cooperation, joint training, and enhancement of operational capabilities.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu visited the headquarters of the Iraqi Air Force during his official tour, where he was presented with a guard of honor. Later, the Air Chief met the Commander of the Iraqi Air Force, Lieutenant General Staff Pilot Muhand Ghalib Mohammed Radi Al-Asadi.

The ISPR spokesperson stated that during the meeting, comprehensive discussions were held on bilateral defense and air cooperation, while both sides agreed to explore new avenues for future collaboration, including joint training and capacity building. The Air Chief assured full support from the Pakistan Air Force in the training domain for the Iraqi Air Force.

The spokesperson further added that the meeting also highlighted the religious, cultural, and historical ties between Pakistan and Iraq, and both air forces agreed to conduct joint exercises.

The Iraqi Air Chief praised the professional expertise and operational capabilities of the Pakistan Air Force and expressed strong interest in the JF-17 Thunder. Additionally, the Iraqi Air Force also showed interest in Pakistan Air Force’s Super Mushshak training aircraft.

According to ISPR, the Iraqi Air Force Chief also appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability. This visit is expected to further strengthen defense and air relations between Pakistan and Iraq.
