OIC, 21 states reject Israel's recognition of Somaliland

Web Desk: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation, along with twenty-one countries, including Pakistan, have unequivocally rejected Israel's recognition of the "Somaliland" region of Somalia, given its serious repercussions for peace and security in the region and beyond.

This came in a joint statement by Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Iran, Iraq Kuwait, Libya, Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Turkiye, Yemen and the OIC.

The statement said this measure reflects Israel's full and blatant disregard of international law and the UN Charter, which explicitly stipulates the imperative of protecting the sovereignty of states and their territorial integrity.

The joint statement fully supports sovereignty of Somalia, and the unequivocally rejects any measures that may undermine its unity, territorial integrity or its sovereignty over its entire territory.

The statement fully rejects any potential link between such measure and any attempts to forcibly expel the Palestinian people out of their land, which is unequivocally rejected in any form as a matter of principle.
