As if the Analogue 3D wasn’t nostalgic enough, the 4K N64 emulator will soon be available in a handful of transparent “Funtastic” limited editions going on sale on December 10th at 8AM PT/11AM ET. The vibrant transparent models will be available “in highly limited quantities,” and they’ll cost more than the standard model at $299.
The limited editions are inspired by the Funtastic series of N64s from the early 2000s, which Analogue says it spent over a year “perfectly color matching.” According to Analogue, these transparent hues are “identical to the originals.” They even have the same names: fire, watermelon, grape, ice, jungle, clear, and smoke. There’s also a nontransparent gold model inspired by a Toys R Us special edition that currently goes for hundreds or even thousands of dollars on eBay.

The “Funtastic” editions of the Analogue 3D are launching alongside a series of matching 8BitDo 64 controllers, which will also be available “in highly limited quantities” on December 10th. If you’re not a fan of the neon transparent look, Analogue is also restocking the standard black and white models of the Analogue 3D for $269 (up a bit from earlier this year), which will be going on sale on December 10th and shipping in January.
Analogue’s timing with the “Funtastic” announcement isn’t fun for everyone, namely people who are still waiting for a black or white unit and would have preferred these instead. Some who purchased restocks could have waited less than a month and gotten a colorful limited edition. Similarly, we pointed out last month that the buttons on the 3D’s controller aren’t color-matched to the original N64 controller — if you want that, you have to pay extra for a different version of the controller coming out in January.
