Lahore: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday chaired a meeting to review the progress of the provision of universal health insurance in the province of Punjab.

Prime Minister was apprised about the progress made for including 100 per cent of the province's population under universal health coverage by the end of this year.
Giving a detailed briefing to the participants on the feasibility of health facility programme, budget estimates, and phased implementation, it was informed that under the short term plan, health cards would be provided in 7 districts of Sahiwal and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions by the end of the current financial year.
Further, the Punjab government ensured that by December 2021, 100 percent of the population of Punjab will have better access to healthcare through Universal Health Insurance.
In the past, the health and education sectors were neglected, which made the health system inefficient and the poor suffered the most. Providing quality and affordable health care and social security to the people, especially the lower classes, is the top priority of the present government, Prime Minister said.
The provision of health cards will not only provide better facilities to the common man but will also revolutionise the entire health system, he added.
Prime Minister Imran Khan directed for continuous monitoring of the achievement of the goals of Universal Health Insurance and assured all possible cooperation from the Federal Government.
The meeting was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar along with Members of the Federal and Provincial cabinet and senior officers of different departments.
