Senate endorses 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill amid opposition walkout

Islamabad: The Upper House (Senate) has approved the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar moved the motion to present the constitutional amendment bill in the Senate. During the session, PTI members staged a protest in front of the Senate Chairman’s rostrum.

However, PTI senator Saifullah Abro remained seated and did not take part in the protest.

When the motion to present the 27th Constitutional Amendment was put to a vote, Saifullah Abro stood in favour of the motion. JUI’s Ahmad Khan also supported it.

A total of 64 senators gave phased approval to all 59 clauses of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Members participated in the voting by standing from their seats.

Subsequently, the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill was presented in the Senate for final approval, once again tabled by Azam Nazeer Tarar.

Senators cast their votes in favour or against the bill by entering their respective lobbies. In the final count, 64 members voted in favour of the amendment, while none opposed it.

Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani announced his ruling, declaring that the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill had been passed by the Senate with 64 votes in favour and none against.

Following the vote, Saifullah Abro and Ahmad Khan did not return to the House.
