Meta develops device that can control computers with thoughts or hand gestures
‘You don’t even have to move. Just intending to move is enough for the device to respond’

(Web Desk): Meta has developed a new device that allows users to control digital devices using only their thoughts or hand gestures.
In a blog post, the company revealed that the Bluetooth-enabled device, which resembles a wristband, enables users to control a computer without physically touching it—simply through hand movements.
This innovation would allow users to perform actions like moving the cursor or even typing text in real time, just by writing in the air.
Meta explained that the device is based on a technology called surface electromyography (sEMG), which tracks the electrical activity of muscles.
The blog post further stated, "We believe surface electromyography could be the key to a revolutionary new way of interaction between humans and computers."
Meta’s researchers have published their findings on the device in the journal Nature Science.
According to the researchers, this breakthrough has been made possible through machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Their neural networks were trained on research data from thousands of individuals, enabling the device to accurately interpret subtle hand movements.
In fact, the company claims the system is so effective that it can even detect the intention behind a gesture—meaning, in simple terms, devices could be controlled by thought alone.
Researchers stated, “You don’t even have to move. Just intending to move is enough for the device to respond.”
This technology could significantly ease computer usage for people with disabilities or those who find physical movement difficult.
However, Meta has not yet disclosed the name, price, or release date of the device, suggesting that it is still in the experimental phase or that the company may announce its future plans at a later stage.
