More than 500 homes have been destroyed by the devastating floods

(Web Desk): Several valleys across Gilgit-Baltistan, including District Diamer, have suffered extensive damage due to recent flooding, with reports confirming the deaths of 9 people, including 2 children and 2 women.
The flooding, which struck four days ago in the tourist hotspot of Babusar in District Diamer, has caused widespread destruction in what is often referred to as a “paradise for tourists.”
More than 500 homes have been destroyed by the devastating floods, and 10 to 12 individuals are still reported missing. Search operations are ongoing.
According to Faizullah Faraq, spokesperson for the GB government, over 12 kilometers of roads have been damaged, 27 bridges and 22 vehicles washed away, and the power, water, and communication infrastructure has collapsed.
He added that floodwaters have destroyed shops, cattle sheds, vehicles, and thousands of feet of construction timber across the region. Diamer district has witnessed the most severe human and financial losses. Massive boulders have blocked roads, several people have been injured, and the destruction of water schemes has left many without drinking water.
The GB government spokesperson confirmed that over 300 stranded travelers and tourists have been rescued so far. However, search and recovery efforts are being hindered by continued water flow and landslides in several areas.
Relief operations are underway, along with efforts to restore electricity and water supply. Assessment teams are being deployed to the worst-hit valleys to estimate the total damage.
