Three tourists dead, four injured, 15 missing after flash floods in Babusar, Diamer

Diamer: At least three tourists have died, four sustained injuries, and 15 are missing after heavy rains triggered devastating flash floods in the Babusar Thak area of Diamer district, Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesperson Faizullah Firaq, the floods wreaked havoc along the Thak-Babusar Road, sweeping away eight vehicles carrying tourists.

He stated that 15 tourists remain missing after being washed away by the floods. So far, rescue teams have recovered three bodies, while four injured individuals have been rescued and shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. One of the injured is reported to be in critical condition.

In response to the situation, the spokesperson said rescue operations have been intensified. He also noted that communication systems in the affected area have been severely disrupted, including damage to the optical fiber network.

The spokesperson further stated that thousands of tourists were stranded due to the flooding, and communication between several households was cut off. He added that the government successfully rescued hundreds of tourists who were trapped along the Babusar Highway, while dozens of others were given shelter by local residents.

Highlighting the government’s response, Faizullah said that the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan has directed the use of all available resources to rescue those affected.
