Islamabad: The Federal Constabulary (FC) has been given the authority to work across the country.

The Law and Justice Division has issued a notification regarding the change in the federal force of the FC, in which it has been stated that the President has issued the Frontier Constabulary Reorganization Ordinance 2025. According to the ordinance, the Frontier Constabulary will now be called the Federal Constabulary.

The notification states that rules will be made regarding the Federal Constabulary (FC), and a Wing Commander will be appointed in each division.

An ordinance is being issued to extend the jurisdiction of the FC across the country. The ordinance has been issued after the amendments to the FC Act 1915 were approved. The Federal Constabulary will have the authority to work in all four provinces and Islamabad. It will also have the authority to work in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

According to the ordinance, the IG of FC will be appointed by the federal government, while the rank of the divisional wing commander will be equal to that of the deputy inspector general. The federal government will be able to recruit the Federal Reserve Force to maintain law and order.

The announcement also states that the responsibility of the Federal Constabulary will be riot control, internal security, counter-terrorism, and protection.

The Federal Constabulary will have one security division and the other a federal reserve division. Offices will be established across the country for recruitment. Under the reorganization framework, the Federal Constabulary will be commanded by officers of the Police Service of Pakistan.

In this regard, while holding a press conference along with the Commandant FC, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry said that the FC has made immense efforts and sacrifices related to security. After the establishment of Pakistan, the FC continued to work under the federal government. The government of Pakistan has decided to restructure the FC.

Talal Chaudhry stated that steps are being taken regarding the training of the FC. The force will now be the Federal Constabulary and will work like other law enforcement agencies. The FC will have a special role in maintaining peace.
