Hands-on with the Apple Home Collection

We just got a closer look at Apple’s new video doorbell, security cameras, door lock, and thermostats, following the company’s “Welcome home” event on Tuesday. The six new devices are part of a new Apple Home Collection, which the company codeveloped with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. You can unlock the door with a PIN code, too, or by using the physical keyhole beneath the keypad. It comes with two cameras that support up to 2.5K resolution, allowing you to record your visitors as well as see when packages are delivered to your doorstep. The doorbell features a built-in motion-activated light. A pair of LG outdoor and indoor security cameras sport a tubular design that matches the video doorbell. The plug-in indoor camera costs $199 and records videos in up to 2.5K resolution. It moves up and down automatically, and you can set it to face downward when you return home. They cost $199 and support Matter. At the center of Apple’s smart home push is Siri AI-enabled HomeView, the company’s first smart home display. You can control each of the new devices with the HomeView or other Apple products, like an iPhone.
