WHO renews commitment to support Pakistan in fight against childhood cancer

WEB DESK -- On the occasion of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the World Health Organization (WHO) renews its commitment to partnering with Pakistan to give every child a chance to defeat the fatal disease of Cancer.

A press release issued by the WHO office in Islamabad today said it also reminds the public that childhood cancer is curable and most types of childhood cancer can be cured with generic medicines and other forms of treatment such as surgery and radiotherapy.

To strengthen access to life-saving treatment, the World Health Organization continues to work with Pakistan's Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination under the agreement between Pakistan and WHO to provide free-of-cost, quality-assured childhood cancer medicines.

In this connection, four Pakistani hospitals are already partnering with WHO to complete the final preparations required before receiving the medicines by the end of the first quarter next year.

Similarly, seven additional hospitals are expected to implement technical recommendations through 2027, so that they are ready to receive the supplies. The ultimate goal is to provide free, quality-assured medicines to all hospitals providing childhood cancer treatment in Pakistan.

WHO Representative in Pakistan, Dr. Luo Dapeng, says the organization is proud of partnership with Pakistan through the Global Platform and we will not stop working to give every child the opportunity to recover from cancer and lead a healthy life.
