Another jolt for nation as NEPRA hikes electricity price by Rs1.19 per unit

Web Desk: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased electricity tariffs by Rs1.19 per unit under the Fuel Price Adjustment (FPA) for April 2026, while simultaneously reducing tariffs by Rs1.98 per unit under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.

According to a NEPRA notification, electricity rates have been raised by Rs1.19 per unit for consumers across the country, including Karachi, under the April 2026 fuel price adjustment.

The notification states that the monthly adjustment will also apply to consumers of K-Electric, with the increase to be reflected in electricity bills issued during June.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency had sought an increase of Rs1.73 per unit under the April fuel price adjustment.

Meanwhile, electricity tariffs have been reduced by Rs1.98 per unit under the first quarterly adjustment of 2026. The quarterly adjustment is expected to provide consumers with relief exceeding Rs67 billion.

The notification further states that the quarterly adjustment will be applicable to electricity bills issued in June, July and August. Under this mechanism, consumers will receive a reduction of Rs1.98 per unit each month for a period of three months.

According to the notification, the relief will apply nationwide, including to K-Electric consumers. However, lifeline consumers will remain exempt from the quarterly adjustment.
