Pakistan will continue its contributions to global peace and stability, says PM Shehbaz
PM said that since 1960, Pakistan has contributed more than 235,000 personnel to over 48 peacekeeping missions, including more than 500 women personnel.


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to continuing its full support in strengthening global peace through United Nations peace missions, adding that Pakistan’s services for global peace and stability will continue.
According to details, in his message on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers on May 29, 2026, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that today Pakistan joins the international community in paying rich tribute to the peacekeepers on the International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
In his statement, the Prime Minister said that every year this day is observed globally in recognition of the services and sacrifices of military, police, and civilian personnel serving under the United Nations flag in war-affected regions around the world. This year, the day is being observed under the theme “Invest in Peace,” which highlights the critical importance of strong political support and financial assistance in promoting sustainable global peace and protecting human lives.
He said that the day also commemorates the establishment of the United Nations’ first peace mission, which began its responsibilities in Palestine in 1948. More than two million men and women have served in over 70 peace missions throughout the history of UN peacekeeping operations.
The Prime Minister further stated that Pakistan is among the oldest and largest contributors to United Nations peacekeeping forces. These countries have played a highly effective role in maintaining and protecting global peace through peacekeeping missions, reflecting a collective commitment to peace.
Shehbaz Sharif said that since 1960, Pakistan has contributed more than 235,000 personnel to over 48 peacekeeping missions, including more than 500 women personnel.
He added that it is a matter of pride for the entire nation that Pakistan is the fifth-largest contributor to UN peacekeeping forces. Pakistan takes pride in its martyrs and brave personnel who are serving with professionalism and extraordinary dedication to promote peace, stability, and the protection of humanity in different parts of the world.
The Prime Minister said that Pakistan reiterates its resolve to continue playing its full role in making global peace efforts more effective through United Nations peace missions. He added that Pakistan’s contribution reflects its unwavering commitment to global peace, stability, and multilateral diplomacy.
