It’s always refreshing when the new version of a product gets significantly better battery life than the last. And that’s the case with the Moto Tag 2: Motorola’s second-gen tracker tag can go more than 500 days before it needs a new battery. That’s almost a year and a half that you can forget about charging at least one of your gadgets.
The Moto Tag 2 taps into Google’s Find Hub network to help track down your stuff. It also comes with UWB sensing for precise location tracking — a feature that wasn’t supported at launch on the first Moto Tag but eventually got there. The first tag promised up to a year on a single battery, the same as Apple’s AirTag, so the Tag 2’s battery efficiency gains are significant.
The second-gen tag is also a little more durable, rated for IP68 dust and water resistance compared to the IP67 first-gen tag. And it still includes a button that triggers an audible beep from your phone if that’s the item you’re looking for. The same button can also act as a remote camera shutter, which, man, I love a multitasking gadget.
Motorola doesn’t have an exact launch date or price yet for the Tag 2, but says it will be sold in North America with more information “in the coming months.”
