Woman burned alive in Rawalpindi domestic dispute

Rawalpindi: A domestic dispute in the Quaid-e-Azam Colony area of Dhamaial Police Station limits took a tragic turn when a woman was allegedly set on fire and killed by her husband’s younger brother’s wife.

Initially, the incident was reported as a fire caused by a compressor explosion. However, shocking revelations emerged after the victim’s son filed an FIR and her daughter gave a statement.

According to police, the victim, Shazia Farooq, was taken to the hospital with severe burn injuries but succumbed to them a day later.

The attempted murder case was registered on the complaint of the victim's son, Shabbir Bhatti. In the FIR, he stated that his father bore all household expenses, which often led to disputes. He strongly suspects that his aunt, Hajra Adeel, intentionally set his mother on fire due to ongoing family tensions.

As per the FIR and the statement of the victim’s daughter, Dr. Nimra, the accused had argued with the victim and her daughter on the day of the incident and issued threats. Later, neighbors alerted the family, and when the door was opened, Shazia Farooq was found severely burned.

Police sources said evidence has been collected from the scene. The kitchen and other rooms were intact, with burn marks found only in the entrance area. Initially registered as an attempted murder case, Section 302 (murder) was added after the victim's death.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect will be arrested soon.
