Ukraine appoints Yulia Svyrydenko as new Prime Minister amid war

(Web Desk): Ukraine’s parliament has appointed Yulia Svyrydenko as the country’s new Prime Minister amid the ongoing war with Russia.

The 39-year-old Yulia Svyrydenko previously served as Deputy Prime Minister. Her appointment aims to enhance the government's effectiveness during wartime and boost the country's domestic defense industry.

President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed hope that the new government will increase the share of domestically produced weapons on the battlefield to 50% within the next six months. He also emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation with allied nations and ease regulations to support the struggling economy.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Yulia stated that her government will work swiftly, with a focus on military supplies, expanding defense production, and advancing technology.

Former Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has been appointed as the new Defense Minister, and several other key positions in the government have also been reshuffled.

Ukraine is currently facing severe financial challenges and may face a budget deficit of nearly $19 billion next year. Yulia has announced a comprehensive audit of financial operations and plans for large-scale privatization.

Meanwhile, the opposition has raised concerns over the new government's autonomy. However, President Zelensky asserted that his team is fully prepared and ready to confront all upcoming challenges.
