Total losses of over 15 state institutions exceed Rs5.9tn, report released

Islamabad: The total losses of more than 15 government institutions have exceeded Rs5.9 trillion.

The Ministry of Finance has released a report on the losses of state institutions.

According to the report, the total losses of more than 15 government institutions have exceeded Rs 5.9 trillion. In the first six months of the last fiscal year, the loss increased by Rs3.45 trillion, while the pension liabilities also reached Rs1.7 trillion.

Among the state institutions, the National Highways Authority (NHA) has the highest loss of Rs19.53 trillion. Quetta Electricity Supply Company (QESCO) has a loss of Rs7.706 trillion, and Peshawar Electricity Distribution Company (PESCO) is in third place, with a loss of Rs6.849 billion.

According to the report, the trend of increasing losses of electricity distribution companies has continued during the six months.

The report of the Ministry of Finance stated that the circular debt of institutions has reached Rs49 trillion. The share of the electricity sector in the circular debt is Rs24 trillion.

According to the report, NHA incurred a loss of Rs153.27 billion from June 2024 to December 2024.

The report of the Ministry of Finance stated that the six-month loss of QESCO was Rs58.10 billion, the six-month loss of Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) was Rs29.60 billion, while the total loss was Rs472.99 billion.

The report stated that the six-month loss of Steel Mills was Rs15.60 billion, the total loss reaching Rs255.82 billion.

The report of the Ministry of Finance stated that the Pakistan Telecommunication Company's six-month loss was Rs7.19 billion and the total loss was Rs43.57 billion.

In addition, the Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Services Corporation's six-month loss was Rs7 billion, and the total loss was Rs11.13 billion.
