Sugar prices hit Rs190 per Kg in some areas

Sugar prices have surged once again in the city, with an increase of Rs5 per kg in the last three days. In retail markets, sugar is being sold for Rs180 per kg, while neighborhood shopkeepers are charging as much as Rs190 per kg.
Residents of Karachi have described the price hike as equivalent to snatching food from the mouths of the poor. Citizens expressed frustration, saying that sugar is a daily essential—should they now stop drinking tea too?
The Sugar Advisory Board has approved the import of 500,000 tons of sugar.
Prices have also risen in Karachi’s wholesale market, where sugar is now being sold for Rs174 per kg.
