YouTube ends support for older iPhones in latest app update

(Web Desk):  YouTube has released an app update that will end support for Google’s video-sharing service on several older iPhone devices.

Under this update, YouTube will now only support iPhones running iOS 16 or later operating systems. As a result, YouTube support will be discontinued for the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, iPhone 7, 7 Plus, and the first-generation iPhone SE.

With this new update, Apple devices limited to iOS 15 will no longer be able to install or update the YouTube app.

Although the YouTube app will no longer function on these devices, users will still be able to access the service through mobile browsers. However, features such as offline support will not be available through browser access.

YouTube's decision to drop support for older iPhones comes shortly after Apple officially declared the iPhone 6 obsolete.

Prior to YouTube, WhatsApp also ended support for older iPhones starting June 1. Now, WhatsApp can only be used on iPhones running iOS 15.1 or later.

Both YouTube and WhatsApp decided to end support for older models based on the companies’ view that newer features require more advanced hardware.
