Small plane crashes into San Diego neighborhood, damaging 15 homes

(Web Desk): A small plane crashed in a residential area in the city of San Diego, California.

According to the international news agency AFP, police reported that a small plane crashed in a residential area of Southern California around midnight, severely damaging approximately 15 homes.

The San Diego Police Department advised the public to stay away from the area.

ABC News, quoting San Diego’s Assistant Fire Chief, reported that there was a "large debris field" from the Cessna aircraft, and several homes and cars were damaged.

According to a CNN report, Assistant Fire Chief Dan Eddy said during a news conference that jet fuel was present everywhere, and their primary goal was to search all the homes and evacuate everyone immediately.

He stated that the plane directly struck multiple houses in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood, but it is not yet known whether anyone was injured.

Dan Eddy added that there was heavy fog at the time the private plane crashed, and visibility was extremely low.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that the Cessna 550 aircraft crashed near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport.

In a statement, the FAA said that the number of people on board the aircraft is currently unknown.
