Meta blocks popular Instagram account ‘Muslim’ in India

Leading technology company Meta has blocked a popular page called ‘Muslim’ on Instagram in India at the request of the Indian government.

The Instagram account ‘Muslim (@Muslim)’ has 6.7 million followers on the photo and video sharing app Instagram.

The bio of this account states that this account was created to build the Muslim community and educate others about the faith, and to provide authentic news about the latest situation in all Muslim countries to the world.

The founder of the Instagram account ‘Muslim’, Amir, has called this move by the Indian government ‘censorship’ during the Indo-Pakistan tension.

The Indian government has not made any formal announcement to block the Instagram account 'Muslim' in India, but people in India who are trying to access this account are receiving the note that 'This account is not available in India and this is because we have complied with a legal request to restrict this content'.

Earlier, India also blocked social media accounts of Pakistani news channels, entertainment channels, Pakistani actors, and many other famous Pakistani personalities.

According to Indian media, the Pakistani stars whose social media accounts have been banned include actresses Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir, Sanam Saeed, Iqra Aziz, Bilal Abbas Khan, and singer Ali Zafar.
