Putin announces ‘humanitarian ceasefire’ in Ukraine

(Web Desk): Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a humanitarian ceasefire in Ukraine from May 8 to 10.

According to global news agencies, along with the ceasefire announcement, President Putin has warned Ukraine that if the ceasefire is violated, Russian forces will respond effectively.

In a statement released by the Kremlin, it was stated that Russia believes Ukraine should also adhere to this ceasefire example.

So far, Ukraine has not responded to Russia's unilateral ceasefire announcement.

It is important to note that Russia’s ceasefire announcement comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Russian attacks. Trump, addressing Russian President Putin on social media, said, "Vladimir, enough! Every week 5,000 soldiers are being killed." He added that he was unhappy with Russia's attacks on Ukraine, calling them unnecessary and poorly timed.

It is also worth noting that Russia celebrates "Victory Day" on May 9 to commemorate the end of World War II. Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced the ceasefire from May 8 to 10 in connection with this event.

However, Putin's ceasefire announcement is seen as an attempt to regain support from US President Trump.

This is not the first time Russia has announced a ceasefire in Ukraine; previously, in April 2025, Putin had announced a unilateral Easter ceasefire, which lasted only 30 hours.
