According to details, Plea challenging victory of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has been filed by Advocate Azhar Siddique with the top electoral body.

It has been stated in the petition that action should be taken against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-president Maryam Nawaz and Ali Haider Gillani – Yousaf Raza Gillani’s son – over their confession of rigging the poll.

Advocate Azhar further argued that the case should be filed against Maryam Nawaz and Ali Haider Gillani for violating Election Act and an investigation should be conducted over Gilani’s victory in Senate in light of Ali Haider’s video and Maryam Nawaz’s statement.

“Despite clear directions from the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), no technology was used by the ECP to ensure transparency in elections,” the petitioner added in his plea.

On Wednesday, in the most highlighted and awaited contest of Senate elections, former Prime Minister and Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) joint candidate Yousuf Raza Gillani thumped PTI candidate Abdul Hafeez Sheikh. Gillani registered his victory from an Islamabad’s General seat.

The victory of opposition came as major blow for PTI, after which Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to take a vote of confidence from Parliament.
