K-pop stars BTS named IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year
Seoul: Acclaimed Korean pop band, BTS also known as Bangtan Sonyeondan have named the Global Recording Artist of the Year Award from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) .
The seven-member group became the first Korean pop act to reach no.1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, with their first English-language single “Dynamite”.
Earlier in January, BTS were also named entertainer of the year by Time magazine and secured its first major Grammy nomination which will held on March 14.
The band debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment and includes four vocalists and three rappers.
The septet is composed of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook
They have fronted the K-Pop drive in the United States (US) in recent years, following there ‘Love Yourself Tour’ and ‘The Wings Tour’.
IFPI Chief Executive, Frances Moore in a statement said, “BTS releasing three albums, and continually finding creative and engaging ways to share their story with the world,”
The IFPI is the organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide, registered in Switzerland and founded in Italy.
Moreover, American singer Taylor Swift came in second in the IFPI Global Artist Chart while Canadian rapper Drake was third.
